In a shocking development, it was reported that Lionel Messi was the victim of a theft which took place in his hotel room. Thieves reportedly stole money and jewelry last Wednesday from his five-star hotel room at the Royal Monceau in Paris.
It is believed that a gang entered through an unlocked balcony door after climbing outside the building through the roof. In addition, three other coins were also targeted as thieves stole valuables worth thousands of pounds. A female victim reported that her earrings, necklace and money were all missing upon her return.
Lionel Messi held up at the Royal Monceau in Paris
According to the Sun, Lionel Messi and three other people were held up at Le Royal Monceau hotel in Paris. Speaking of the theft, a female victim said:
“Paying a fortune for a fancy, safe place and having someone come into your room is very confusing. Police told us they saw two men with a bag on the roof on CCTV cameras, but could not identify them. They said three more of the thefts were also reported. A Moroccan guy in the next room told me he had his watch stolen.
It is believed the hotel did not believe the female victim until police intervened. According to The Sun, a police spokesperson said there was undoubtedly a “very serious security breach”, which is under investigation. The spokesperson added that there was evidence to suggest that “an experienced gang was responsible.”
The astonishing incident took place even though police have stepped up security since Messi arrived at the hotel in August. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has moved into the hotel with his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, and their three children after his transfer from Barcelona to PSG this summer transfer window. Fans of the club have gathered outside the hotel every day in hopes of seeing their hero.
